There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is banned. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent location, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; still, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are allegedly necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of many border crossings.
The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty table games. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of 150 slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the common tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel building that features many luxuries accompanying the gambling den, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 table games.
